I took the plunge and started playing poker online
Poker has always been a ‘girls night in’ kind of event for me. My poker expertise came from playing Texas Holdem every Wednesday night, for the last three years, with some of my girlfriends from college.
I know the rules, the talk, the bluffing and, thanks to my latest salary increase, the money to actually play for good money. Even with all this, I was still scared about venturing into the world of online poker sites. Earlier this week, a friend – who shall remain anonymous :) – recommended trying out the Pacific Poker website at http://www.pacificpoker.com.
There is a no download version available, on the right hand side of the home page if you can’t find it, so you don’t have to install any program onto your computer if you don’t want to. This is good for me since I my first foray into online poker happened on Monday during my lunch break. And, yes, if you’re wondering I am still trying to lose ten pounds before the wedding.
I spoke to the customer support on a chat box – it was really awesome. The box opened and in five seconds, there was someone there to help me. The person really helped relieve my concerns about privacy and the security of playing online. After speaking with her, I even did my own research and found out that using a credit card online – with the security – is actually safer than paying for groceries in a supermarket. Anyway, back to the point.
I joined a table of Texas Holdem and settled in for a few hands of free money play during lunch. The software was simple and easy to manage, even for a beginner like me. Learning the ropes of how the program worked was also easy. Before I knew it, lunch was over! And don’t worry, I did eat a diet sandwich, I’m not starving myself.
All in all, a really enjoyable experience that I am definitely going to repeat. Maybe next time I’ll even upgrade and start playing for real money.
